goodies galore

As promised I took a few shots of some of the goodies I recently acquired at the Farm Chicks show, so I wanted to share those today with all of you! Most of these items below are from the show, but I did use a few of my recent estate sale finds to stage a few things for better pictures…. There are a ton of smaller items, so I decided to have fun with a collage of sorts:collage

I am still really into the whole black and white thing at my house, and I am starting to work in a bit of gray here and there… the books in the top photo are from Josh’s family. I decided to start an old black book collection. (Although I cheated and there are a few navy in there too). I love the monochromatic look of them. I plan to use the old brushes in my kitchen on the wall. (I was inspired by Elizabeth Maxon’s kitchen redo). I loved the little silver crumb catchers I found to go with them.

I am also finding myself drawn to religious items (old rosaries, saint medallions, and statues). So I did manage to buy a few of those while I was at the show.

The old pocket watch on a rosary might be my favorite find of the weekend. Lisa sold it to me AFTER the show at the private Barn House/Tarte event we were at, and right off her neck! I just love it!

flair

The feather was something I picked up at the Barn House booth. These boys were so inspiring to me. I think their booth may have been my favorite. I would have bought a TON more from them had I not worried so much about how to get things home. (Speaking of getting things home… you should have seen Tara and I with our bags running through the airport, and with that feather shedding all over! It was quite a site!)

scrapbook

At the Barn House/Tarte event on Saturday night we were given these old book covers with a few pages inside to write down contact info and such from the people we met there. It was such a great idea and the girls and I all wrote notes to each other in them (kind of like signing a yearbook). When I got home I used mine to hold all the other mementos from my weekend. (Plane tickets, postcards, business cards from the people I met, the farm chicks event map, etc). It acts as a little scrap book now of my weekend and I really enjoy looking at it. It was the best weekend I’ve had in a long time. (It’s hard not to have fun when you’re with about 14 other girls who all love the same things as you, and you get to spend the weekend shopping!!!!)

That’s about all I have to share for today. :o) Thanks for checking in on me!

home sweet home

I made it! I flew out Friday morning to Spokane with the fabulous Miss Tara. My nerves were slightly overwhelming during the first thirty minutes or so of the first flight, but Tara talked me through most of it. I also took my sisters DVD player along to distract me while flying. All in all, not too bad, but if you ask me to fly again anytime soon… I might say no!! :o)

We arrived about 1pm in Washington and met up with Kasey, Jeanne, Jackie, Amy, and Jen. We had lunch, talked for awhile and then had dinner and drinks later that night. It was such fun to be surrounded by women who all share my interests and truly are friendly genuine people.

On Saturday we had an early breakfast together and then headed to the Farm Chicks show! I was able to meet tons of my blogging friends, and get to put faces to the blog address I know them as. :o) Including KimberlyLissa, Melaine, Teresa, Deb, Isabel, Lisa, Gladys, Rebekah, Brooke, Cindy, Kayla, Beth, and probably some others that I am forgetting!!!  I also bought quite a few treasures (I had to buy another bag to bring them home in!) Then it was on to the Barn House & Tarte after party at Chaps. (Which was so cool, and really fun!)

Then Sunday we spent half the day flying home again… I was so happy to touch the ground on the final flight! (Those who know me on facebook, and on twitter were laughing at all my stress-filled updates!).

I had an amazing time, and am so happy I went. I’ll have to remember how worth it flying was next time I get invited someplace like this! (Something tells me I won’t remember).

P.S. Ok, don’t be mad… but I didn’t take my camera along…. I only have a LARGE camera that wouldn’t have been fun to lug around (and would have taken up valuable shopping space). But I plan to take photos of my purchases to show you all very soon. I just need to play catch up from being gone for three days. (I took Thursday off too, to work my family’s estate sale).

Head over to the blogs of the gals I mentioned above, who ALL had cameras. :o)

the after

If you have been reading my blog for awhile you know that we have been in the “construction” phase of an addition to our home for quite awhile…. probably about as long as I have had a blog! We bought our house with the intention on someday adding a master bedroom and another bathroom (it only had one bathroom when we bought it).

We hired an architect to draw up our vision, and embellished in a few places we thought needed it… the front porch being one of them! My house was an ugly pumpkin orange when we bought it, all stucco, and had some orangey/tan rock pavers for a front stoop.

After construction began, and the reality set in on how much an addition REALLY costs, we slowed down…. WAY down, and things began to sit unfinished for long periods of time. It was torture for me, to see the potential and have to leave things untouched.

But finally, FINALLY, we have finished what we set out to do, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

house1Here is a quick before and after shot… you can see that we changed the roof line to add interest, shingled the front of the house, and added a porch and front sidewalk. The house was painted a gray color with a hint of sage green. My goal was to have gray and white with accents of black.

Here’s a shot of my new porch. The two rockers were a recent estate sale find. (I got both for $25 each!) They were such a perfect addition to tie in the black dutch door. The pillows are a gift from my friend Kim at Bella Rustica. She came up to see me with her two sweet labs, and let me take photos of the three of them.

Hannah joined in the photo shoot this morning, to show off the porch. She just loves to sit out there and “watch traffic” as her dad likes to say. (We don’t live on a busy street, so most of the “traffic” are people on foot, who she always loves to say hello to.) Of course she barks like crazy, so most people are afraid to say hello!

I’ve got some more work to do with the “fluffing” of my newly remodeled nest, but all in all, I am so happy to be rid of the orange, and be a few steps closer to my vision. Maybe I will find a few treasures at the Farm Chicks show this weekend!?!?!? I can’t wait for my trip to Washington with miss Tara. She and I are actually old friends from what seems like a lifetime ago, when we used to waitress together at the Elephant Bar. :o) We lost touch after a few years, but reconnected through the wonderful world of blogs! It’s been so fun to see how much we have in common, and to peek into each others lives through photos we post. I am looking forward to spending the weekend shopping together!!!! And of course, we will be with tons of our other blogging friends out there!

I’m fighting a head cold/sinus thing, so wish me luck that I will shake it before our flight on Friday. And say a few prayers for us, as I am TERRIFIED of flying.

Much love to all of you, my friends, and have a happy week!

P.S. Thanks for all the sweet comments on my photos below. I won first place in the silhouette contest!
