Melancholy Musings

I’ve been playing with some nature photos lately.  I am always inspired to grab my camera just after the rain stops. The sky looks so bright and hopeful when it peeks through from behind the haze of purple clouds. The lighting is incredible and somehow everything looks just a little more amazing to me. Renewed, refreshed, and somehow reborn. I shot a couple pictures after the last week of rain we had and felt inspired to play with them today.

I really liked the feel of these two. Especially when cropped and framed. I made the polaroid frame from scratch in photoshop and thought it lent itself  nicely with these images. It seemed to be keeping in the soft and serene tone I wanted to set.  The colors and imagery instantly evoke a feeling of melancholy for me.

I struggle with my focus in photography. I want to learn so many things that I find it hard to pick and choose where I focus myself.  Every time I am inspired by another artist, my mind races with possibilities and ideas for new endeavors.  My confidence is dwindling a bit, but I aspire to grow and learn as much as I can, while I can.

This blog has given me a place to explore and share those passions.  I appreciate the comments and feedback you all leave me, it often is the driving force in keeping my spirits lifted and pushing me toward new goals.

Happy Friday everyone!

Becky - Sara–your photos are aamzing–makes me want to get a real camera and be a photographer too. But, alas, I do not have an eye for it like you do! My poor photos on my blog are so sad! I also wanted you to know, even though I have told you before, I prayed for you today.

danielle Pousette - Sadie, it is part of being an artist to feel this way. Don’t stop, because you in yourself are an inspiring person. I love your work personally.

Audrey - I *so* can sympathize with you on the overwhelming feelings that come with questioning one’s creative focus, and the related confidence dip. Thank you for sharing your journey…for all the introspection, all your work is truly lovely. :)

Lisa Scott - Hi,
I love your blog and pics. Was wondering were is the music you had? Maybe it’s my computer but I can’t hear it. I liked it a lot. Can you tell me the titles to those songs?

RobinfromCA - Sara, There will always be people out there who are ahead of where we want to be. Otherwise we would have nothing to aspire to. I take much of my inspiration from you. I am really not good at photographing people (which you do so well) but, thanks to your example and challenges, am getting much better with macro, silhouette and I’ve had some successes with sun flare. I’ll get to the people pictures too. I agree with Alice, don’t let your confidence slide, just enjoy the journey along the way and look back at the progress you’ve made. You really do have remarkable talent! – Robin

kerry - I love the softness and dreamy quality of these images, they are lovely. I’ve been wandering on your site and although we have fairly different styles I am very inspired by your vintage style and the light energy of your photos. I am slowly getting more into photography again…I learned in film and the possiblilities of photoshop, digital, lightroom etc have floored me since I got my new camera….LOVE IT but I wish there were more hours in the day. Your work gives me the kick in the butt to do another tutorial and play more with my images. many thanks! I will add a link to you under my Inspirations sidebar,

Virginia S. Magruder - Lovely. Such a soft, seductive light. When looking at these photos, I can almost feel that place when the rain stops and nature seems to be taking a breath.

jamie - I feel for you on the Focus issue, Ive posted about this very same thing before. My mind races and I move from thing to thing to thing.. I think you should explore it all, you have a great eye. At some point maybe you will settle in to a certain something particular. I would think in Photography there is so much to experiment with too. Beautiful photos, serine to me! Have a Happy Weekend, jamie

Alice W. - Sara,
I just have to tell you…I am continually impressed with your photographic work. You are actually one of the creative souls that inspire me to want to learn more and find my “niche” as you seem to have found yours. I know that seeing so many others, your confidence may flutter….BUT don’t let it! You are so talented and creative and truly inspiring! In fact I was just playing with some of my own photos in photoshop today, after reading your blog about the photos you almost discarded. You so inspire me!
~Alice
