Just popping in…

Hi everyone! I’m sorry I have been away so long. I have had the most insufferable cold! Today is day number 12 of this thing!!!! I have never heard of a cold lasting so long! It’s miserable and it’s still not letting up. I haven’t gone to the doctor, but I don’t have any signs of infection, so I have just been waiting it out! And to top it off, Josh has been traveling non-stop so I had to suffer alone for most of it! I am on my fifth box of Kleenex, if that gives you any indication of how bad this thing is!

Anyway, only a few small updates in the time I have been gone…

1. I have received many of the new items I ordered for the shop, and got quite a few of them added already. Including some re-stocking of some Sadie Olive favorites. Take a peek, if you haven’t seen the shop in awhile. I have been trying to freshen up the site with a lighter color pallet and more of a modern feel. Please feel free to let me know if there are any broken links or hiccups you find on your visit. I’m trying to clean all that up too!

whats new

2. I finally added some link love to the blog. For some reason my “blogroll” function will NOT work on WordPress, no matter what I try, so I figured out how to add a page and listed all if my favorite links there. It’s at the very bottom of the blog, so scroll down and take a peek. I was also able to list some of the “interviews” I was able to participate in, that I don’t think I ever mentioned on the blog. (There are quite a few blog links listed, so be prepared to spend some time browsing!)

3. My dear friend Kasey has asked me to “guest post” on her blog next week. The theme is “Inspiration Monday”, so I will be posting about all of the things that inspire me. Head on over to Kasey’s blog and have a look on Monday, and do your own “Inspiration Monday” post, if you feel so inclined.

I think that’s about it! There isn’t any new exciting news, and sadly, I have no new decor to photograph for you. (Thank you, thank you for all your comments on my new dresser, by the way). I’m hoping to whip this cold and be back to myself (and behind a camera) in no time!

Boudoir Bliss

This last weekend Josh and I were fed up with how messy we had let our house become… between his constant traveling, and “the hotel maid will get it” mentality, and my lack of domestic skills and pajama wearing laziness… it had become quite obscene. So we spent most of our Saturday cleaning house and doing yard work.  It prompted that spring cleaning feeling I get every so often and I started purging away. I filled bags and bags for the goodwill, and I also had Josh make a trip or two to the dump. The green sofa that Hannah (our chocolate lab) took over was in that “dump” pile, as was our worn out and scratched up headboard. The sofa had made a temporary pit stop in our bedroom for the last six months or so, but I was fed up with it being over sized and unsightly, and decided it needed to go.

With the couch and headboard out of the bedroom, and my little piles of clothes picked up of the floor, our bedroom was looking pretty baron. So I made a quick trip to the antique stores I love and was instantly smitten with an old apothecary bureau we found.  (Josh even went with me, since he wanted to go to his super bowl party later that day, and he knew he had to put his time in).

It was one of the most exciting shopping trips I had been on in a long time. Everything I had wanted, I found, and then some! The dresser was an amazing find. It was exactly what I would have picked out if I had every dresser in the world to choose from. It is unique, with distressed white paint, and an imperfect warm golden wood top, and it had black and white apothecary labels on every drawer. I felt like it was custom made for me!

I brought it home, and got to work tearing out the old (and very ugly) shelving paper that the previous owner lined each drawer with. I then went to Michael’s and bought some velcro, so that I could re-line each drawer with a linen drop cloth I had lying around. (Since I can’t sew, I just cut each piece and stuck on some velcro to make sure it stayed in place in each drawer.) The ends frayed a little but I made each piece slightly over-sized as to allow for the rough edges to show. (I figured it lent itself nicely to the character of the piece anyway).

Once I was finished I re-arranged the room and snapped a few photos to share with you all.

The room feels so bright, fresh and airy now.

Even Annabelle seems to enjoy it more. Here she is in one of her favorite spots (on her mom’s side of the bed).

Some of the smaller details I have lying around. My sweet friend Cathy made the button cards. The old drawer and zinc boxes were two more of the treasures I picked up on Saturday.

All in all, I would say I am so pleased with my new look. I have a few more items I want to add…. an upholstered headboard, a large rug, some roman blinds, an old amoir for the televison. But for now I feel bliss…boudoir bliss.
