Blog Land

What do you think of my new header? I made it in photoshop with a scanned image of a “beano” card I bought on ebay. I am pretty proud of it. I love finding cool things like this on ebay. I just started using ebay this year in 2007 and I am hooked. I think it could very well be an obsession already.

Blogging is my latest addiction. I can’t believe how much time you can spend getting lost out there in blog land. I start by checking a few of my favorite blogs… and then I click on one link to another until I am so deep into the hills, I forget who even recommended me to the sites I land on. I can’t believe how nice perfect strangers can be! I leave messages at the blogs I visit that catch my interest and quite a few of them have returned a note to me. I discovered yesterday to my delight, that one of the nice people I left a note with even wrote about me in her blog! Becky at Live and Learn even plugged my new store! It’s just amazing to me that people can be so kind. It totally brightened my night when I saw it and saw that someone even commented about how they loved my site on her blog.

I already feel welcome in Blog Land. I have made new friends so easily with people who live all over the world. It’s such a great feeling to have friends with similar interests and who like you enough to leave a note to say they actually read your nonsense postings. I promise I will always appreciate the comments that are left for me. My list of favorite blogs is so long now, I don’t know how I will possibly keep up with them all! Here are a few I highly recommend if you haven’t found them on your own already!

Easter Bonnets

When I was searching through my pictures for a photo of my grandmother yesterday I came across this newspaper clipping from April 18th, 1981. I was four. My mom entered me into a Easter bonnet contest and I won “Most Beautiful”. The prize was a chocolate bunny and this ribbon. My mom, very proudly, found several papers and clipped out the photo to save in my baby book. I have to admit, it makes me smile to look at it and to think of how proud my mom must have been when she wrote the details in my baby book.

My mom was thirty then, the same age I am now. It’s strange to think about it that way. It’s hard to imagine your own mother at your current age. She was in such a different place in her life at age 30 then I am now. She had already gone through her own infertility issues, adopted my older sister, and gave birth to me (after doctors told her she would never have kids); she had even been through a divorce. While I feel maybe even more seasoned in life lessons than she was at my age, I can not fathom being a mother of two. But I certainly wish I knew how it felt.

Josh and I have been struggling with infertility for three and a half years now. It makes me cry to even type those words. It’s painful and draining to even talk about. We have had 1 fresh and 2 frozen IVF (in-vitro fertilization) cycles, and done one round of artificial insemination, spending $25,000 along the way. We had one miscarriage from the frozen transfer, and one miscarriage from a natural pregnancy (a fluke possibly?). It is the most challenging thing I have been through. I really feel terribly for any woman who struggles with infertility. I am going to end this topic by saying – I hope with all my heart that Josh and I get to experience parenthood someday soon. We still are trying naturally (hoping the fluke could happen again), and may someday look to adopt say a prayer for us, won’t you?

(I’m not sure how that happened – this started out as a nostalgic entry about my mom and Easter and my childhood, and somehow ended up about my infertility? I think I better stop here and write again tomorrow when I feel less hormonal.)

Much a-do in March

March has a few birthdays in my family. First is my Dad’s which is the 22nd, and then my cousin Matilda, who turns three today, and tomorrow is my late Grandmother’s birthday. I thought I would mention them today and post some photos to let them know I am thinking of them and that they all mean a lot to me.

I miss my Grandma and Grandpa. They both passed away a few years back and I still talk to them often in my thoughts and hope they forgive me for all the time I missed out on spending with them. They mean the world to me. I know they are watching over me and my family. And I’m sure they are smiling down on Matilda today on her birthday. I love this picture of them, they both look so young and in love.
My Dad is 56 this year. I feel closer to him than I ever have been. He has been helping Josh and I work on our house, and I have spent more time with him this year than I can ever remember spending with him. I took this photo of him on his last birthday. I love the smile he has in the photo, it’s contagious.
Matilda is a duck lover, which is something we have in common(I have to love ducks, since I married and became a Duckett). She is the cutest three year old I know. My favorite thing about her is her voice. It’s the smallest daintiest voice you can imagine with a hint of a southern accent. I have enjoyed watching her grow these last few years and can’t wait to see her on Easter. These photos are from her last duck-filled birthday.

These are a few of my favorite things.

Well I figured since most of you are just getting to know me, I should start by defining my style for you. Perhaps when you see the things I buy for myself and decorate with, you might be more inclined to think the items I have on my website are worthy of your own homes. After all quite of few of the things I sell, also adorn my home. My style changes every few months or so, right now, I am into vintage European decor. I really like to buy French themed items, although I try to stay away from the generic, and focus on unique pieces I don’t see in every store on the Internet.

Above are a few photos of my front room, living room, bedroom, and dining room. I have a ton of pictures to share, since my husband and I are always redecorating and remodeling. I’ll start with these few, and add more as I take better pictures. I’m working on our master bedroom now (it’s the room addition we are in the middle of). I love it so far, but I’m not ready to share any pictures yet. (We still need closet doors, things on the walls, etc.) I think it should be complete in a month or two…but trying to get my husband to work on the house lately is like pulling teeth, so it may be a little longer.

Wedding bliss

The wedding was beautiful. My sister, the bride, was the most stunning I have ever seen her. She was married in Laguna Beach at Tivoli Too. I thought I would share a few of my favorite photos from the occasion. Most of the photos I posted were taken by her photographer, Mike Castillo. He is brilliant, and I highly recommend him.
