Piano Man

While I was snapping pictures of holiday decor last weekend, I took a few of Finn at our antique piano. It’s seriously out of tune, and sounds nothing like it’s supposed to, but Finn thinks it’s very amusing none-the-less.

OH he is so adorable! Did you make the pillow he is sitting on? Seeing a little boy sitting on a pillow plinking on the piano brings back so many happy memories!! Have a wonderful day and thank you for sharing… :)

Deck the Halls

My front room is finally finished and I am slowly putting it back together. I decided on Sea Pearl by Benjamin Moore, which is the same color I have in my office and bedroom. It’s a lovely shade of white with a bit of a greyish hue, that I can’t seem to get enough of. I usually use (and prefer) flat paint, but with Finn’s little fingers starting to grub up the walls here and there, I decided to switch to an eggshell finish so that the walls are at least wipeable.

We used to have a dated spray-on speckled finish to the walls, along with the wide horizontal stripes that the prior owner painted (and I never knew the colors to), and the ceiling was an awful texture that both Josh and I hated. My Dad smoothed both the walls and ceiling out to a nice flat finish and also filled in the recessed box above the mantle that I felt was too restricting.

It’s a nice fresh start to a space that I was tiring of. While I did enjoy the stripes for the six years we have lived here, I just wanted a change and a blank canvas to work with.

When all was painted and ready to decorate, the starkness was a bit of a shock. The trim and details don’t quite contrast the way they used to and the room just looked really white. However, I’ve lived with it for about a week now, and it’s growing on me. I keep making changes, and with the holiday decor taking center stage at the moment, it’s hard for me to imagine the room without all that fluff. But, I like it, and that’s all that matters.

Now, on to some holiday decor…. (sorry for the sheer volume of photos in this post, but I took them all weekend, so I had to share…)

These pictures were taken over the course of the last three days. They end with pictures from today, with Finn in his dinosaur jammies. I don’t think my poor tree is going to make it until Christmas. ;)

P.S. The grain sack dog bed, is from Maria at Dreamy Whites. Hannah and I both adore it!

Love the new look!! I really like your lab’s pillow. I laughed when I saw the picture of Finn with with string of beads in his mouth. Yes, I can see Finn mouthing the “red christmas balls” like my son did. Precious times!! Enjoy your new room and thanks for sharing.

Your home is perfect. I never tire of looking at photos of it!! And sweet Hannah….love her bed, its from Maria, right?! I am so glad that you have a pic of Hannah in it since I was wondering how it would handle a large animal (I have a lab too). I must add it to my wish list now :) Thanks for sharing hon. And that Finn…such an adorable character ;) XOX

I was happy to discover the “clear suspending pendant light” in one of your beautiful photographs. I just recently found two and have plans to update the dated brassy parts and then make a white chain cover. Then not sure if I’ll keep or sale.

Picking a Tree

Bright and early on Sunday morning we made our way to the local Christmas tree farm with my sister Morgan. I’ve never been before and I really wanted to get a few pictures of Finn among the trees.

Finn had a blast (as you can see) running through the rows of trees. He adores being chased (and tickled when caught) so he had plenty of willing hands to grab and tickle him. We didn’t end up buying our tree here (I prefer noble firs and they didn’t have any) but we will be back for sure next year. It was too beautiful a place to not visit again.

The tree we did come home with may not make it until Christmas, little curious (and sometimes downright naughty) hands are brutally attacking it as we speak. This is going to be an interesting Christmas….

Love them! They turned out so cute! :) The one of Finn’s feet running through the trees might be my favorite.

I remember when my girls were that little and trying to keep them out of the tree and the gifts!! It was a chore in itself! But those days pass quickly so enjoy it, too!!
